Our Valentine's Day was quiet but perfect. It was spent with those we love, as it should be :) My mom asked if she could watch our kids so Nathan and I could go out on Friday night for Valentines. Well, she ended up watching my nephew that day and he had a fever all day (later we found out it was strep) and we didn't want to spread those germs to my kids so we had to cancel. So, we just stayed in.
Nathan surprised me with rings with the kids names on them. I had placed an order for them but the lady that makes them told me she was out of them - when really Nathan told her to tell me that so he could get them for me :) He never surprises me and I love surprises so I was very excited! He also gave me a sweet card and some roses which, as Ryan put it, were "pretty awesome" :) I got Nathan a car cover for his race car - he had been saying he needed one so I surprised him with one - he said it was perfect :) The kids gave him a new shirt and some ear phones for his phone :)
I got Noah some new dinosaur shirts (because he was so sad when he grew out of some of his favorite ones from last summer), some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle socks, a Wii game, and a calendar (he likes to countdown to holidays or special days on the calendar).
I got Ryan a Frozen backpack, shirt, hairbow, and socks. She also loves to write on calendars "like Momma does" as she says so I got her a princess calendar too :)
Nathan had to work so I spent most of the day cleaning and playing outside with the kids. It was 72 degrees and beautiful outside. I hate the bad name that some people give Valentines day. It is just a day to celebrate love - not necessarily being in love with a significant other - just love. Love is something to be celebrated. Lots of people say they should celebrate it every day - while that is a great idea, it is not realistic. Life gets in the way and there is nothing wrong with celebrating love on a special day. It goes along with anniversaries and mothers and fathers day - those people should feel love every day, but giving them a little extra attention on one day does not take anything away from all the other days of the year to me. My kids love Valentines day and I will always make sure they know they are loved every day and just a little extra on Valentines Day :) We ended our Valentines Day with some Arby's and a movie :)
Valentines Day was our last warm day for a while. The next day was in the 30's and then came the snow and ice. I used to love snow but now I can take it or leave it. I usually have lots of work to do and getting the kids to the sitter when the roads are bad is dangerous and bad weather always causes Nathans work to come to a stop. But, the kids LOVE the snow (especially since Frozen came out) so seeing their excitement makes it all worth the missed work and headaches it causes. We had the best time sledding (in a kayak - we had no sled so we had to improvise), building a snowman and throwing snowballs - and once back inside we played board games and colored and watched movies :) I really hope Noah remembers this snow day (Ryan is still too young I think) - I have the best snow day memories from when I was a kid! But, that was enough winter weather for this year so now bring on Spring!

The Stillwells Lately...
Here lately there hasn't been any one thing big enough going on to blog about, but we have been keeping busy. We have really been getting into the movies lately - we have went to see Paddington, Strange Magic and Spongebob Out of Water. I liked Paddington, Strange Magic was ok, and I am not a fan of Spongebob and Noah never gets to watch it but really wanted to go see it so we did and he loved it. He laughed throughout the entire movie and that made sitting through it bearable.
Depending on the crazy Arkansas weather we have been doing a lot outside. Playing on the swingset, exploring, four wheeler rides.
Then when it decides to be winter again we go in for some play-doh or movies.
We have had lots of birthday parties lately too! Kids birthday parties are one of the fun things about being a parent :)
We had Spirit Week at daycare to celebrate Homecoming at the local schools. The kids LOVED it and so did I. They were really excited each day and were able to understand each day what the theme was.
This weekend is Valentines Day and we decided to get a little creative with the Valentines this year. I let the kids each pick a Valentine off Pinterest and we are going to make them this week. More on that next week :) The holidays all seem so much more fun with kids!
Ryan refuses movie pictures right now :) |
